Food & drink

Come hungry.

Fairground classics, quick family suppers and enough sugar to justify another lap of the midway. Most food traders open with the gates and serve until around fifteen minutes before closing.

Dietary information

Ask us before you order.

Vegetarian options are available at every main food trader, and vegan options are marked on the individual menu boards. Harbour Fryer uses a separate fryer for its pea fritters and chips during designated service periods; please ask staff on the day before ordering if cross-contact is a concern.

All traders keep current allergen information. Because our kitchens are compact mobile units, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Picnics are welcome

You’re welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. The east lawn has six large picnic tables and a bottle-refill tap beside the first-aid cabin.

Glass containers, portable barbecues and alcohol brought onto the site are not permitted.

A Kingston habit

The doughnut queue is part of the evening.

Mercer’s doughnut van has stood on roughly the same patch of the south midway since 1966. The fryer has changed, the sign has been repainted more than once, and card readers finally arrived in 2019, but the method is still simple: small rings of dough dropped fresh, drained, and shaken in cinnamon sugar while they’re hot.

On busy Saturday nights, the shortest queue is usually before 18:00 or after 21:15.
