Festival Eye ReviewKingston Green Fair takes place on Late Bank Holiday Monday in May each year. When KGF is on you know that the summer festival season is already well and truely happening! This popular 'onedayer' is sited on the banks of the Thames in Canbury Gardens, a short walk from Kingston Railway Station. This is important for anyone travelling there to know since parking is for stallholders, crew and local residents only. This is one event you should try and make it to if you live in London or on the rail network connecting to Kingston. It has to be one of the best days out within the London conurbation with loads of stalls, sideshows, entertainers and stages for bands to play on. The music is a mix of 'ethnic' and 'electric' and there is something for every taste. If anyone is under the illusion that 'Green' is boring or 'wooly' then they will be surprised to see how vibrant and 'cutting edge' KGF is, together with demonstrations of more traditional sustainability. The event has been running for around 15 years [since 1987] and is a credit to the crew who organise it. If there was a Champions League for one day events then this one would probably qualify for Europe each year. If you are ever considering running a one day event with an environmental theme then take your lead from the Kingston Green Fair, it's brilliant! - Andy Smith, Festival Eye 19th Edition (May 2003). |
